I saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on Thursday, and in short: you should see it.
I won’t say too much besides it was funny and pretty and engaging (which is typical of most MCU movies). For that alone, it is worth your time.
However, I think Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 does a little bit more than the average MCU flick. Not a lot more, just a little bit. I think this most recent addition demonstrates that Marvel is trying some new things—they’re branching out past their sanitized, audience-tested filter, and they’re beginning to explore and take (micro) risks. This is the first movie we’ve had in the MCU that starts to take advantage of visual gags, a stylistic choice that most audiences aren’t use to.
I hope it pays off.
