Well, the only folks that’ll be seeing this are my subscribers, who also happen to be the folks who woke up to (or fell asleep to) a flood of emails. My apologies. But perhaps my mistake communicated to you what this post was going to communicate, which is: Religion & Story has been revived.
The blog has been mostly dormant for about three years (and before that, I was only posting every few months). This was, of course, due to my studies at Baylor. But now that the Ph.D. is behind me, we can get back to what really matters.
I am, for those unaware, back in Arkansas, teaching as an associate professor at my alma mater, Harding University, specifically launching the David E. Smith Center for Healthcare Ethics and Human Dignity. Even though I’ll be getting use to the demands of the job and the new schedule over the next year, my intention is to get back into a rhythm of posting about once a week.
That same writing schedule is what resulted in the nearly 200 posts that each of you received. Part of the irony of blasting out all my old posts to all of my subscribers is that I do recognize a massive shift in my writing and theological thinking between the time before I moved to Waco, Texas, and the time after. So as I was in the process of archiving and locking all of those old works, they were rather disseminated in their entirety.
It’s not that I won’t be writing on those same subjects; my interests have stayed relatively the same. I will still post about theology, the Church (and the Churches of Christ), cultural trends, movies, storytelling, and top 10 lists. (And maybe I’ll throw in some bioethics occasionally, since that’s evidently what I do now.) But I expect, even as I return to these familiar subjects, I will bring different ways of thinking—wiser with a little more life experience, informed by some new voices, contextualized by a new community and career. I hope, at least, this is the case. If it all sounds the same, send me an email, and maybe I’ll take another five year hiatus.
